April 2008
Literary News
April is National Poetry month and we are working on our poetry section. New additions include: Ted Kooser, Christina Peri Rossi, Mary Jo Slater, John O’Donohue and a fresh copy of Amira Baraka’s ‘Eulogies.’ Also featured are local poets Joseph Hutchison and Nancy Andrews.
Store Displays
For no particular reason, we are displaying Beat Writers in our 12th St. window, including Neil Cassady, John Clellon Holmes, Jack Kerouac and Phillip Whalen, among others.
Book Clubs
Our book clubs are picking up steam.
In
early April, members of our fiction club were equally confused after reading
Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. Many diverse opinions on this book.
Our non-fiction bookclub
met on April 19th at 6:30. We discussed Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer by James L. Swanson.
The group that gathered was small, so we moved to the
Table Mountain Inn and discussed the book over
wine and appetizers.
Several local bookclubs have chosen to meet here at the store, and we always enjoy hosting them.
The
next fiction bookclub meeting here at the store will
meet on May 12th and discuss Saving the World
by Julia Alvarez.
Book Signings
Local author/teacher Ann Camy, dropped off copies of her 2 new
children's books last week, in preparation for her April 19th signing here at Clear Creek, at 4:00. They are Adventures on Wilderness Ranch and Playful Pets-Oreo, the first in a series.
On Saturday April 26th
local author Cynthia James will be on hand to read
from her new book. The book, What Will Set
You Free, shows the way to lasting healing through
creative expression. 5 PM in the store.
Golden Events
The
Golden Pioneer Museum and Foothills Art Center are
both having SCFD-sponsored free days on Saturday April
19th. Both Saturday and Sunday (19th and 20th)
the Railroad Museum is running a special post-income
tax day Steam-Up. Admission to the museum
includes a ride on one of their antique trains.
Thanks Golden!
The Golden Community has been wonderful to our fledgling bookstore. After 3-1/2 months in business, we still have people telling us every day how
happy they are to have us here. The community has also been great about placing their special orders through us. We really
appreciate the friendship and patronage, and look forward to building up our inventory and our relationships in Golden as this spring progresses!
